Sometimes referred to as “magicians”, graphic designers are the backbone of every creative company. And here at ZALORA, we value our graphic designers because they help to make our promotional materials beautiful and enticing. We’ve been pretty lucky with our pool of “magicians” in the various offices in ZALORA and it’s definitely a plus point too that they’re talented with great style to boot.
This week, we caught up with Yan Meg Gentica, our rad Graphic Designer from our ZALORA Philippines office to discuss her role , inspirations and why ZALORA is an awesome brand to work for.
Describe yourself in three words.
Creative, resilient, unicorn.
What do you do at ZALORA?
I’m a Graphic Designer.
Tell us more about your role and how it fits the ZALORA team overall.
Basically, I create marketing collaterals from onsite, prints, packaging, newsletters, community, social media, partnerships and paid banners. I also do video editing.
As a graphic designer, I am one of those responsible for the overall look and feel of the creative visuals. We have to make sure that everything looks good because these visuals are one of the most important tools to help us hook customers with a first great impression.
What do you like about design?
Being able to do what I love and make a living doing it.
What’s the one misconception people have about designers?
That our job is simple, easy, effortless and only takes few minutes to do anything. When in fact, the process of design is time-consuming. It takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears to create. We have to deal with criticism, stress and worry about every design we come up with while playing with colours, shapes and design softwares all day long.
Share with us some artists or other designers who are an inspiration to you.
Jessica Walsh. I admire how expressive her projects are and how she puts everything she has to her designs. Referencing her love of photography and of painting words on people. It’s really unique.
If you weren’t a graphic designer, you would be a… pilot. I love to travel, watching the sunrise and sunset from a high altitude.
If you could join another department or team for a month, which would it be?
Production Team, I think it would be fun working with them; taking photos and styling people.
Your favourite spot in Manila is…
BGC. I love how creative and photo friendly the place is plus it’s a perfect place to do a lot of stuff. There’s a lot of places you can go to hang out, dine, shop, party and work out.

ZALORA is a great place to work because… I got a first hand look at the newest looks of each season. And I am able to work with creative, upbeat and friendly people.
