What do you do at ZALORA?
I’m a Buying Assistant for Menswear handling Apparel and Accessories.
Tell us more about your role and how it fits the ZALORA team overall.
My work under the buying team is a crucial part of the ZALORA business as we work closely with our suppliers to bring the latest and the best fashion items available to our consumers.
What do you like about buying?
I enjoy being part of the buying team as I get to apply my background in Fashion Design and Merchandising while learning the business principles in running a retails business in ZALORA.
What’s the one misconception people have about being a buyer?
I think the biggest misconception about being a buyer is that we’re all work and no play. But that’s totally not true!
What’s the most fun aspect about being a buyer?
The fun thing about being a buyer is that we get to see the latest product mix and trends in fashion ahead of others and we help shape the fashion retail landscape by putting out the best selections from which our targeted shoppers can choose from based on their personal preferences, style and needs.
Share with us some brands or designers who are an inspiration to you.
My favourite designers are Elie Saab and Vania Romoff. Personally, I like to go for simple and elegant designs. I think they are both successful in bringing life to sophistication with their designs by not being too flamboyant. They focus more on what’s best for a woman’s silhouette. Among brands, it definitely has to be ZARA – everyone’s favourite go-to store!
If you weren’t a buyer, you would be… a fashion designer, given my background.
If you could join another department or team in ZALORA for a month, which would it be?
The Production team! I think it is underrated but really, there’s a lot of hard work and creativity behind it. I’m very much interested with styling, quality control of clothes and fun photo shoots!
Your favourite spot in Manila is… Refinery and Rockwell.
